Baptism & Membership

Baptism is a sign of our commitment to follow Jesus, where we symbolically join him in his death and resurrection, rising from the waters to new life.  When someone is ready to make a faith commitment, they should speak to the pastor about preparing for baptism.  They may join with others in a baptism preparation class or meet individually with the pastor and other church leaders.

In the early days of this church, baptisms were held down in the Concord River, sometimes breaking through a thin layer of ice to get to the water.  Luckily, those days are over!  Today we have a baptistery in the front of our sanctuary with comfortably heated water.  Baptisms are held as part of our Sunday morning worship services so the whole community can bear witness to a person’s faith commitment and offer their support along the continuing journey.

If you are interested in exploring baptism or church membership, talk to the pastor about next steps

Believer's Baptism by
Full Immersion

We baptize people who have grown enough in their faith to be able to make the decision and commitment to follow Jesus.  Baptism is done by wading into the baptistery to be fully immersed.

Baby Dedication

Although we do not baptize infants, we honor their presence with us as part of the family of God and we recognize God’s special love for them.  During the dedication, the parents and the congregation thank God for the gift of the child and together promise to care for the child and teach them about the love of God.

Membership

Membership involves making a commitment to be part of the community.  We promise to care for each other and serve God together.  You do not have to be a member to participate, but our shared commitment and covenants help us to grow in deeper connection to God and each other.
